As Director of HR & Talent, Wes focuses on leading the efforts to attract, retain, grow, and develop talent at LIFT to meet the needs of the organization, mission, and members; focuses on the tactical and operational aspects of the Human Resources function; but also, very importantly, focuses on the strategic pieces of HR and Talent to help build pathways to organizational excellence and foster and sustain the amazing culture at LIFT.
Additionally, Wes is active in LIFT’s DEI initiative that is finding ways to increase and maintain representation in all dimensions of diversity at LIFT and find ways to incorporate DEI into all parts of the organization’s DNA.
Wes LIFTs because he understands the value of people and talent in mission-driven organizations and works behind the scenes to make sure they have all they need to go out and change the world.
Wes’ career has mostly been focused on nonprofit work. He has worked with dozens of nonprofits as a consultant for Nonprofit HR; in-house HR for Prosperity Now (formerly CFED); OCLC, a library sciences and technology global nonprofit; and began his career as a social worker with the nonprofit the Buckeye Ranch.
Even though he was born in DC and raised in the area, Wes ventured (mid)west and completed his undergraduate degree and his Master’s in Labor and Human Resources at THE Ohio State University before returning home to DC.
In his free time, Wes enjoys painting, experimenting with his family’s Taiwanese home cooking recipes (to the chagrin of his sister and mother), reading whatever he can get his hands on, and spending time with his husband and their two feline daughters.
