As the Operations Associate for LIFT-Los Angeles, Sophia supports the Executive Director, the Development team, as well as the Program team. She splits her time between staffing the member services office and working behind the scenes to make sure LIFT-Los Angeles runs as smoothly as possible.
Sophia LIFTs because she wants to ensure that all the families served by LIFT-Los Angeles get the same opportunities to reach their full potential that she had when she was growing up.
Before coming to LIFT, Sophia worked as the Program Manager of the UCLA Burkle Center for International Relations where she planned and executed U.S.-foreign relations-focused events with prominent speakers from governments, non-profits, and academic institutions. She also managed the Burkle Center’s internship program and the administrative functioning of the office. Sophia has worked for a range of non-profit organizations including college-access community organization, Bright Prospect; international land rights NGO, Landesa; and the Self-Help Legal Access Center at the Pomona Courthouse. She also worked for two years at the Pomona College Career Development Office.
She graduated from Pomona College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies, a minor in Politics, and a focus on public policy and education. She currently spends her time volunteering as a Child Advocate with the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights as well as exploring Los Angeles’ rich music scene.
