Sol Anderson

Executive Director, LIFT-Chicago

Chicago -

At LIFT, Sol leads LIFT-Chicago. He is responsible for cultivating new key partnerships, building and sustaining relationships with new and existing donors and supporters, and leading the development of LIFT-Chicago’s strategic plan in concert with the Program Staff and the LIFT-Chicago Regional Advisory Board.

Sol LIFTs for Ballard Street, the urban, working-class neighborhood in Grand Rapids, MI, where he lived growing up. On Ballard Street, Sol witnessed his family, friends, and neighbors working hard, living in poverty or paycheck-to-paycheck and struggling to make ends meet. Because he had people in his corner, LIFTing him up, he was able to go to college and to graduate school to pursue his goal of having a career where he could help others and give back. He has seen the power that a support network, like the one LIFT provides, can have on a person’s life. He loves working for an organization that wants to help people who live in neighborhoods like Ballard Street across the country.

Before coming to LIFT, Sol served as the Youth Coordinator for the City of Evanston, IL. In this role, he was responsible for working with Evanston community agencies to develop and strengthen programming for youth and young adults, managing the Youth & Young Adult Job Training & Employment Program, and referring youth and families to local service agencies. Sol has over a decade of experience working with diverse, underserved communities in the youth services and workforce development fields. He has worked in multiple capacities along the service-provision spectrum, from directly working with clients, to developing/managing programs, to creating community-wide strategic plans and initiatives for people in need. Sol earned a B.A. in Social Relations from Michigan State University in 2001 and an M.B.A., also from Michigan State University, in 2005. He is a dyed-in-the-wool, unabashed Michigan State Spartan. Sol was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI.

Sol is a board member at Childcare Network of Evanston and a volunteer coach for the Pistons in the Evanston FAAM Basketball League. He currently lives in Evanston, IL with his wife and son.
