As the Program Director of LIFT-DC, Hina manages the local program team, develops and strengthens community and university partnerships, and amends the local strategy in response to changing circumstances to ensure that the team meets programmatic goals.
Hina LIFTs because as a first-generation immigrant from Pakistan, she has experienced the struggles low-income families face first-hand. Hina has seen the difficulties of navigating through the social services sector and how support from a community can change someone’s economic well-being.
Throughout her career, Hina has focused on poverty alleviation for low-income and economically disadvantaged populations. Prior to her current position, Hina was the Executive Director at Houston Southeast, a state government organization focused on social economic development in a low-income area of Houston. During her time at Houston Southeast, Hina not only increased the programs from 8 to 28 within the first fiscal year, but she also increased the quality and impact of the programs in the service area. Hina also spent time working for a microfinance organization in Bangladesh where she conducted field research and initiated new development programs focused on poverty alleviation in Pabna. Before that, Hina initiated programs for a non-profit in Thailand that provided formal education, as well as after school and non-curricula activities to orphans residing in government schools.
Hina graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors of Arts in Government, minor in Business and Plan II Honors Program.
