Elena Vernikos

National Development Intern

National Office -

As the National Development Intern, Elena assists the national development team with research and management of donor operations. She provides additional support to ensure that LIFT’s fundraising efforts are as strong and sustainable as they can be.

Elena LIFTS because poverty isn’t a choice, and all families deserve to be empowered through equal opportunities. She LIFTs because she believes that in order to break the cycle of poverty, we need to listen to the specific needs of each and every family in need.

Elena is a current student at American University where she studies Communications, Law, Economics, and Government. She plans on graduating in May 2019 and is still undecided on her future career plans. She enjoys traveling when she can, and she recently studied abroad in Russia. Before coming to LIFT, Elena worked on Capitol Hill as a congressional intern and on a local political campaign as a policy fellow.

In her spare time, Elena loves to go to the gym, cook plant-based meals for herself and her friends, and watch documentaries. When she’s not at LIFT, she can be found in any one of Washington DC’s numerous art museums.
