As the LIFT-Los Angeles Development Associate, Charissa supports the development team with donor stewardship, fundraising, grant operations and special events. Charissa also strategizes and creates content for digital marketing and communications outreach, striving to share the empowering stories of our LIFT-Los Angeles families within our L.A. communities and beyond.
Charissa LIFTs because she believes in the healing power of strong family ties and community support systems. Charissa is the proud legacy of parents and grandparents who bravely navigated their way out of poverty, and she hopes to help other families do the same.
Prior to LIFT, Charissa began her career working in marketing and communications at the Museum of Modern Art, Viacom Vh1, and PR firms in New York and Paris. After graduating from Tufts University with a B.A. in American Studies and Communications and Media, Charissa’s love of community building led her to switch gears and work in specialty coffee in New York and Los Angeles for five years. After the 2016 Presidential election, Charissa’s desire to do more led her to become a volunteer and AmeriCorps VISTA Marketing and Communications Coordinator at the educational writing nonprofit 826LA, where she wrote and helped execute all digital marketing and communications strategy for the organization.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Charissa’s need for more sunshine and space (literally and figuratively!) led her to move to Los Angeles in 2015. She is equally obsessed with the KonMari method, coffee shops, her L.A. rescue pup Abby and turning conversations from small talk to real talk as quickly as possible.
