At LIFT, Brian helps lead the organization-wide implementation of LIFT’s new two-generation approach. This role includes supporting the Chief Strategy Officer in the implementation of LIFT’s strategic plan and leading local program leaders in analyzing performance and adjusting implementation strategies. Previously, Brian served as the Program Director for LIFT-DC, where he led staff and volunteers to serve as many as 1,200 community members per year across three offices in Washington, D.C. Brian has regularly represented the organization externally, including a profile on the PBS NewsHour and media appearances on Fox 5 News, DCist.com, and more.
Brian LIFTs because he deeply identifies with LIFT’s mission, which he sees as a natural extension of his upbringing. As a first-generation immigrant from Guatemala, Brian developed his advocacy skills early on as his family navigated hardships and opportunities and as his parents worked tirelessly to provide a better future for him and his sisters. He sees the same goals and aspirations from community members that come to LIFT every day and is inspired by their determination and resilience.
Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree from the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at VCU, where he was recognized with the Outstanding Political Science Student Award and the Award for Excellence in Research. He is a graduate of ProInspire and the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership. He and his family have lived in the D.C. area for more than 25 years.
