Meet LIFT-DC’s New Executive Director, David Harvey
We are thrilled to welcome Dave Harvey to the oneLIFT family. Dave will lead and manage the implementation of LIFT’s approach in the Washington, D.C. region as LIFT-DC’s Executive Director. In his role, Dave leads the development of a local vision and model of engagement that empowers individuals and families throughout the Greater DC area as they work to build the personal, social, and financial foundations they need to move forward.
Dave LIFTs because he has a long history of working on behalf of people in need – service and advocacy that have their roots in his social work background. Growing up with a sister who has developmental disabilities, Dave learned at a young age about how hard it can be for families to seek help when resources are limited. “Increasing the social networks and resources available to low-income families in Washington, D.C. is a social justice issue,” Dave says. “I want to make a contribution to my local community so that everyone has the opportunities that many of us take for granted,” he adds.
Dave joins LIFT from ProLiteracy, an international adult education organization where he served as president & CEO. Prior to that, he founded the national AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth & Families and served as executive director for 13 years. While in the HIV/AIDS field, he published journal articles, book chapters and monographs on disability law, policy and HIV/AIDS issues.
Dave has a certificate in nonprofit leadership development from Georgetown University. He holds an M.S.W. from Catholic University and a B.A. from Clark University. He is trained in interim executive leadership and transition through the Nonprofit Support Center of New York and will receive a certificate in executive coaching from George Mason University in February 2014. In addition, he is an avid tennis player, art enthusiast, reader and bicyclist.
His expertise and passion to help lift others make him a great asset to the LIFT team. Please join us in welcoming Dave Harvey to LIFT!
