LIFT-The Bronx Welcomes New Site Coordinator

Wednesday, July 21 2010

LIFT-The Bronx is proud to welcome Rachel Lee as its newest Site Coordinator.  Lee is a recent graduate of Grove City College where she earned a B.A. in Sociology.

Lee will begin her two-year term with LIFT-The Bronx as a Site Coordinator on July 26, supported by a generous grant from AmeriCorps*National Direct.  She will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Bronx office and managing the corps of college student volunteers providing services to low-income individuals and families.  Lee will help ensure that LIFT clients receive quality services for employment, housing, public benefits, and referrals, and work with a network of New York City agencies to build a better safety net for those clients.

Lee brings various talents to the LIFT-The Bronx office including considerable experience in individual and group work with inner city middle school children and at-risk youth in residential treatment facilities.  During her undergraduate career, Lee spent a semester in South Africa and Rwanda working in schools and orphanages.  While in Africa, she also dedicated her time to making home visits to persons with HIV/AIDS through APRECOM, an AIDS prevention and outreach nonprofit.  Additionally, Lee also served as a Resident Assistant for two years at her college and has led orientation and mentoring programs for new students and their parents.

“We are so happy to have Rachel on board with us.  She’s well-experienced and we look forward to working with her,” said Betty Gilmore, Program Director at LIFT-The Bronx.
