LIFT-Evanston Partners with Legal Assistance Foundation to Provide Public Benefits Access to Area Residents

Wednesday, December 01 2010

EVANSTON, IL—LIFT-Evanston has joined forces with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago (LAF) to promote economic security and stability for its clients.  The partnership will enable LIFT clients to receive free in-house public benefits screenings and enrollment assistance to access basic necessities to help them make ends meet this winter.

The project, titled the Public Benefits Enrollment Project, will assist individuals and families who live in Cook County and are not currently enrolled in public benefits programs, such as SNAP (food stamps), medical assistance, All Kids, cash assistance, child care benefits, heating and cooling benefits, and WIC.

A staff person from LAF will hold regular hour-long appointments at LIFT-Evanston on Thursdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm.  Appointments will consist of registration as a client of LAF, and screening for eligibility of one or more of the public benefits programs.  If eligibility is determined, an application will be filled out and sent to the Illinois Department of Human Services local office.

Interested participants should bring the following to their appointment:

  • Photo identification
  • Proof of housing costs
  • Social Security cards for everyone who is applying
  • Pay stubs for income received from work in the last 30 days
  • Income verification for Unemployment, SSI, Social Security, etc.

To make an appointment or for questions regarding your eligibility, please contact LIFT-Evanston at (847) 491-6707.
