LIFT-Evanston volunteers and partner service agencies in the community will utilize the open-source housing website to easily access, update, and edit housing resources for Evanston residents. It will fill a gap in Evanston’s social service system and enhance the ability of LIFT and other organizations to navigate housing resources and connect low-income residents to affordable housing opportunities in Evanston and the surrounding communities.
The project is modeled on the success of a similar initiative with LIFT-Chicago, where tech-savvy volunteers from its Uptown Office developed a housing database using the open-source software platform Wetpaint and trained nearly a dozen partnering agencies to use the system.
The completed database is slated to launch in October of 2010.
