LIFT-Boston protects residents from being left out in the cold

Monday, November 02 2009

LIFT-Boston is working to protect at-risk individuals and families from being left out in the cold this winter.  As temperatures drop, many Boston residents are unaware of the resources available to provide fuel assistance and utility shutoff protection throughout the colder months.

LIFT-Boston offices in Cambridge and Somerville are available to work with local residents to access fuel assistance resources, such as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), programs that offer fuel delivery to families in need, and utility discounts for persons already receiving public benefits.

LIFT-Boston is also available to help residents apply through their utility providers for utility shutoff protection.  Shutoff protection is available November 15 through March 15 to eligible families, who may include: senior households, low-income families with infants, people with serious illnesses who cannot afford to pay their utility bills, tenants whose landlords are responsible for utility bills, and low-income people who would be without heat during the winter.
